The Institute of National Culture and Cross-cultural Communication was created by resolution No.1 of 31.05.2013 of the Academic Council of Mari State University on the basis of the Institute of Finno-Ugric Studies, the Faculty of Culture and Arts and the Faculty of International relations.
The Institute follows the 80-year-old traditions of training research workers and teachers in the sphere of Mari and Finno-Ugric linguistics and literature. Among its graduates there are dozens of doctors and candidates of philology, People’s writers and Honoured writers, well-known journalists and statesmen. The Institute has the best traditions of training specialists in the field of international relations, advertising and public relations, documentation studies and archival science. During the 15-years of its existence the effectiveness of the system used at the Faculty of International Relations has been proved by the students’ results at All-Russia academic competitions.
The Institute comprises 5 departments: the Department of the Mari language and literature; the Department of Finno-Ugric and comparative philology; the Department of Cross-cultural Communication; the Department of Culture and Arts; the Department of Social and Cultural Technologies.
