SUMMER SCHOOL OF THE MARI LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN MARSU COMPLETED ITS WORK

From 3rd to 14th of July 2017 Summer School of the Mari language and culture took place in Mari State University. This year students and professors from Hungary, Finland and Japan came to learn language and traditional culture of the Mari people.
In the framework of two-week intensive course participants have been learning fundamentals of the Mari language: phonetics, lexicology, word-formation, morphology and syntax. Special attention was paid to culture of verbal communication and practice of translation – on the elementary, basic and advanced levels.
During sightseeing tour attendants of the school visited Morkinskiy district. They visited a house-museum of Mari classic writer Chavayn S. G. in the village of Chavaynur. Besides guests got acquainted with traditional culture and everyday life of the Mari people, spoke with representatives of Mari in their native language in the village of Izi Koramas. After lectures participants attended the atelier “Sayver”, museum named after Evseev, theater named after M. Sketan, editors office of newspapers "Mari El" and "Kugarnya", and bought books in the Mari language. Guests had an opportunity to enjoy dishes of national cuisine in Morkinskiy district and in the cafe "Sandal".
On July 14 the closing ceremony of Summer School took place. Participants were awarded the certificates of successful completion of Summer School of the Mari language and culture. Mikhail Shvetsov, Rector of Mari State University, congratulated the participants with the completion of their training and wished to continue their study of the Mari language and culture in a broader manner, and expressed the hope that international relations of Mari State University with the universities of other countries would develop on qualitatively new level.
