IV INTERNATIONAL FINNO-UGRIC STUDENT FORUM RICHNESS OF FINNO-UGRIC PEOPLES: FIRST DAY

On the 25th of May IV International Finno-Ugric Student Forum Richness of Finno-Ugric Peoples began its work in Mari State University, core higher educational institution in the Republic of Mari El. The solemn opening ceremony took place in the Republican puppet theater.  

Mikhail Shvetsov, Rector of Mari State University, Mikhail Vasyutin, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Mari El, Minister of culture, press and ethnic affairs of the Republic of Mari El, Natalya Pushkina, Director of the Republican Center of Mari culture, as well as Alexey Yamaev, Art director of the Republican puppet theatre, addressed with welcoming words to the audience.

Mikhail Shvetsov congratulated everyone and said: "Mari State University, a recognized center of Finno-Ugric studies, builds up friendly relations among peoples, countries and states. The forum is one of the aspects to establish close contacts with the Finno-Ugric universities. Occupying a leading position in the Finno-Ugric world, we preserve and augment the traditions of the Mari people. I wish the forum was very constructive for us all."  

During plenary session participants of the forum presented their reports. Dmitry Paybulatov, student of MarSU, told about the first All-Mari Congress and development of the Mari language and schools. Csaba Bartfai, graduate student of University of Szeged, presented a report "Trends of globalization and glocalization on the streets of Izhevsk". Marina Devyatova, student of the Udmurt State University told about the origin of surnames.

For the first time traditional outdoor games of Finno-Ugric peoples have been enlisted in the program of the forum. They took place in the athletics arena "Arena of Mari El". Guests of the forum got acquainted with each other and learned many folk games.

The first day of the forum continued with a sightseeing tour across Yoshkar-Ola. Rich architecture of our capital was a pleasant surprise for the guests of our city. Full of bright events, the day ended up with a rousing ethno disco in "Chaplin" club.

Today the active work of the sections will begin. It should be followed by a summing up, awarding of participants and the concert in the theater named after Shketan.
