Searchers of Mari El summarize the intermediate results of the expedition to the Leningrad region
The expedition took place from April 23 to May 7 in the Kirovsky region of the Leningrad region near the tract Vinyagolovo. The team from the Republic of Mari El consisted of 11 searchers from the Mari State University team "Resurrection" and one soldier from the team "Defender" from the city of Volzhsk. It's not by chance that the Mari searchers for the 9th time choose the Leningrad region as the place for expedition: thousands of Soviet soldiers from the Mari land fought in the North-West direction. During the years of the Great Patriotic War the losses of the Red Army were enormous here - there will be enough work for the searchers for many years.
The searches were carried out on the battlefields of the 59th separate ski battalion of the 8th Army (59th Combat Team). Together with the searchers from "Ugolyok" detachment (Saint-Petersburg) they managed to find the remains of 20 soldiers (including 4 extra). At Red Army men were found 10 medallions, unfortunately, they managed to read only 4 of them. Two more notes are in examination.

We established connection with the family of Andrey Stepanovich Seliverstin, they sent us the photo of their hero. The search for relatives of the other three soldiers continues.
More information about the results of the expedition will be posted in VKontakte group "Resurrection" shortly. On Victory Day at Lenin Square in Yoshkar-Ola the squad soldiers will organize an exhibition of finds and authentic samples of uniforms and equipment of the Red Army soldiers. The event starts at 12:30.
Student search team "Resurrection" exists on the basis of the History and Philology Faculty of Mari State University in Yoshkar-Ola since 2013. The main directions of its activity are: search expeditions, work with archives, educational work with schoolchildren and students, museum work, military-historical reconstruction.
