A student of Mari State University has won the III place in the All-Russian Olympiad of teaching methodology of foreign languages and cultures in Izhevsk
The Institute of Language and Literature of the Udmurt State University has been organising the Olympiad for the tenth time already and it is not the first time when our students win prizes there. This year 10 students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages defended the honour of the university in the field of teaching methods of English, German and French. The final was preceded by two rounds of correspondence competitions, where competitors had to design a foreign language lesson and write a methodology essay, and then prepare a self-presentation in a foreign language (video) on the topic 'My Pedagogical Credo'. The best of 130 students from 29 Russian universities were selected based on the results of two rounds to participate in the final.
The final task was to conduct a foreign language lesson using modern methods and technologies. An authoritative jury assessed the video recording of the lessons. Members of the jury were doctors and candidates of science from such universities as Lomonosov Moscow State University, Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University named after N.A. Dobrolyubov, Moscow State Pedagogical University, and Moscow State Linguistic University named after M.V. Lomonosov. Dobrolyubov Moscow State University, Perm State University of Humanities and Education, Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.
At the end of the competitionKseniaValieva took third place in teaching English. Only representatives of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Dobrolyubov Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University were ahead of the competition.
Here is what the winner herself says: "Taking part in the Olympiad at such a high level was a real challenge for me. I bet that every participant, valiantly defending the honor of his or her university, not only gave his or her best, showing maximum performance, but also extracted from this competition amazing experience. Moreover, the Olympiad helped me cope with a difficult period in my life when you are standing at the crossroads of several roads, unable to understand what to strive for. Itisworth a lot.
And it all started with an unsure "yes" when I agreed to take part in the first stage. Making a flowchart of a lesson, guided by methodological knowledge and imagination of what the lesson would look like in reality, was not easy, but fascinating. I especially enjoyed the tasks of the second stage: At the call of inspiration, my thoughts quickly found their way into an essay and a monologue. And, of course, the most responsible task was to conduct a full lesson, already being in the final! The preparation resembled developing a whole project: it was very important to think about every detail methodologically. By the way, the multifaceted theme "Once upon a time" played a big role in unleashing the creative potential of the finalists. Within this theme, I decided to implement the idea of a time machine that transports young students back to a carefree childhood by awakening memories. The hardest part of this is making a lesson plan, and the exciting part is seeing your lesson go from text to action, full of vivid emotion. The lesson has helped me in many ways to highlight my strengths, to analyse my weaknesses. It's a great experience.
From my side it would be very rude not to express gratitude to my teachers, who supported me at the right moment and gave me faith in my strength. This Olympiad is a great opportunity to try my abilities. I consider myself very lucky to have taken part in it.
Diplomas were awarded to foreign language students Talia Ahmedzadeh (Diploma in the Efficient Use of Information and Communication Technologies in the German Lesson) and Angelina Rachkova (Diploma in the Efficient Modelling of Communicative Context in the French Lesson).
Congratulations to the winners and participants! We wish them new victories and achievements
