Russian as Foreign Language
Russian is the main language of instruction at Mari State University, as well as in the majority of higher education institutions throughout the Russian Federation. According to the Rules of Admissions of the University, potential students should possess a strong command of the Russian language; students from the countries where there was no Russian language taught in secondary and high school should also take a course of Russian Language.
Mari State University offers an opportunity to study a one-year course of Russian Language at the Preparatory Department. We offer a flexible program, which may be based on the students’ needs and requirements: plans for future enrollment to Mari State or any other Russian university, or just personal development.
The course covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with a particular emphasis on listening and speaking. The primary goal of the course is to teach communicative competence, that is, the ability to freely communicate in Russian according to the situation, purpose, and roles of participants.
The tuition fees must be paid in Russian Rubles. The tuition fee for 2015-2016 academic year is 65 000 Rubles. The payment can be done upon arrival in Yoshkar-Ola, or transferred to the university banking account.
Mari State University does not provide financial aid in any form (scholarships or grants) for international students applying for the Russian Language Program. The university can assist in arrangement of housing at the university dormitory, or renting an apartment in the city.
