Associate Professor Konstantin Belosludtsev and Associate Professor Mikhail Dubinin from the Institute of Natural Sciences and Medicine took advanced training to learn practical skills for working with the CRISPR/Cas9 mammalian cell genome editing system.
During the five-day course at the Lomonosov Moscow State University Medical Research and Education Center, the MarsU scientists walked the entire path of genome editing from the design of guide RNAs to the analysis of the results. Particular attention was paid to the acquisition of practical skills necessary for genomic research.
Genomic editing is a modern method of engineering biology that allows to make point changes in DNA. This approach opens new perspectives for mankind: from the treatment of hereditary diseases caused by mutations to the modification and creation of new organisms.
As part of the Priority 2030 program, a genomic editing laboratory equipped with high-tech and unique equipment will be opened at MarsU. The laboratory's developments will find wide application in the treatment of socially significant and orphan diseases, and will also be used in agriculture and other industries.
