Antifaque seminar at MarSU

Rector of Mari State University Mikhail Nikolayevich Shvetsov addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He noted the need to take a critical look at the content consumed online, especially in the context of the information war. In addition, the rector emphasized the primary role of education in the development of rational thinking.

Daria Repina, an ONF activist, pointed out the importance of abstracting emotions when processing information. The speaker listed a number of marker words that can help recognize deliberately false information, and talked about the importance of building a logical connection and checking sources.

Sergey Zhuravlev, Associate Professor at the Department of Russian Language, Literature and Journalism and Head of the Information Environment Research and Monitoring Center, was the moderator and keynote speaker of the event. He explained the essence and origin of the term "information war" and highlighted several distinctive features in its conduct. The speaker described the tricks that manipulators resort to in order to mislead people, enumerated verbal and non-verbal methods of dishonest presentation of information, and accompanied his theses with an illustrative photo array.
