MarSU opens the door to the world to its students

18.04.2022 15:54:00

Mari State University celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in 2022. It is truly a proven classic. Fifty years ago Yoshkar-Ola became a university city. During these years much has been done to ensure that the younger generation receives quality higher education: new faculties and educational profiles have been created, new study and living areas, equipped laboratories and high-tech centres have been opened. Today, Mari State University comprises 13 faculties and institutes, 9,000 students, over 100 specialities in various fields of knowledge.

High-tech specialists are in high demand in today's labour market due to the increasing pace of digitalisation of both the economy and social life in general. Every year, more and more companies and research centres are focusing their activities on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, neural networks and Big Data. However, there are still not enough digital professionals. That is why it is so important to train highly qualified specialists in digital economy, programming and artificial intelligence, engineering, nanotechnology and power engineering, which is what the Institute of Digital Technology at Mari State University is doing.

The university faced the task of creating an intelligent educational environment aimed at fundamental training of specialists and development of digital competencies in students. In many respects this was possible due to many years of cooperation of Mari State University with leading scientific centres and enterprises of Russia and the world, such as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Radio Engineering Institute named after Academician A.L. Mints, Vympel MAK, Central Research Institute of Machine Building, Russian Federal Nuclear Center - All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics, Semiconductor Device Factory, Mari Machine Building Plant, TechnoTechnology, NanoTechnology, and others.

A new stage in the development of Mari State University Institute of Digital Technologies was the creation of the educational programme "Modern Long Range Radar Systems" implemented in cooperation with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Mints Institute of Radio Engineering, a part of the "Almaz-Antey" Air-Space Defence Concern.

Particular attention will be paid to curricula, plans and, of course, teaching content as part of the operation of the new educational programme. This will be both professional development and the involvement of new teachers, as well as strengthening the synergistic effect around the cluster's superidea. The new profile opens up the possibility of choosing an individual educational trajectory (a new level of education, where the learning needs are shaped by the students themselves). Even more opportunities will open up for students to undertake internships and work placements at leading companies in the defence industry and scientific centres of the country. Thus, thanks to the knowledge, competences, practice and skills acquired with digital technologies, students have a wider employment prospect, which will allow them to build a successful career with a large salary already in their second year of study.

On April 14, at the Institute of Digital Technologies of Mari State University the presentation of a new networking educational programme implemented jointly with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology took place with the participation of representatives of the A.L. Mints Radio Engineering Institute.
