«"Unity in Diversity": the Cultural Policy of the European Union»— is a topic relevant for understanding the development processes of a modern united Europe striving to preserve the diversity of cultures and dialogue between them on the basis of creative personal development. At the same time, the experience of intercultural dialogue is useful for considering the development of policies to maintain cultural diversity in Russia and its regions by the political authorities of the state, public organizations, international associations and other subjects of cultural policy.

Within the framework of the lecture, the concepts of cultural policy, its goals and objectives were formed, theoretical aspects of the development of a multicultural society were considered, the experience of leading scientists — theorists of multiculturalism was analyzed. Using the example of the European Union, the complexity and diversity of cultural policy directions, its evolution in the context of the search for the identity of a changing society, as well as ways to preserve national cultures of peoples in the context of globalization are revealed. Attention was paid to the formation of the regulatory framework of the cultural policy of the European Union, the most striking programs and projects implemented on the basis of the EU were noted, including the action to create the motto of the European Union — "Unity in Diversity", which has become a symbolic expression of the policy of multiculturalism. At the end of the speech, the main trends in the development of the cultural dialogue of the united Europe with the outside world were noted, the nature of Russian-European relations was considered. The participants were invited to draw parallels between the Russian policy and the EU policy on the development of intercultural dialogue in multi-ethnic regions.
